Horizon
.........................................................................

On the horizon she stood,
Waiting for the answer I could not give.
Could I not give it, or did I not want to?
The question plagued me,
my knees trembled, my tongue
tied around my throat
like a living noose.

On the horizon she stood,
the ocean meeting the sky, and
I could not give her what she wanted,
what she wanted was too much,
and I had nothing.
A world apart, the space between two heartbeats
and I felt that my hesitation was ever long.

On the horizon I stood, watching
where she walked away, leaving me
in my noose of a unloosened tongue,
hanging myself from the lone tree on
the edge of the world.

On the horizon I waited, would she come
back? Would it all be in vain?
I could no longer wait, I could no longer
pace and wear a circuit into the ground
around that dying tree. In the moment of
lust, in the moment of regret, on the horizon
some said they saw me jumping from the
cliff.

Where they saw her jump the night before.
